So they posted notice, as it’s called. Closings are generally referred to as “bittersweet,” implying that there are better days and better gigs ahead, and we’ll meet again, don’t know where don’t know when. …Oh yeah, and “I’ll really miss you…Honestly.’’ And it is a kick when you unexpectedly discover an old mate at the first rehearsal. It’s always the people. And while I appreciate the gift of being able to work at a craft which I love, and to work with imaginative, entertaining, generally enlightened, mostly amusing, oftentimes brilliant people, it’s still work. You do have to show up eight times a week. Sometimes I suspect the universe is giving me just what I asked for; time off in the summer. Gene’s Blog: My FIRST Job
This is my fi-i-i-rst job. I love that number! Mine was working at the carwash. I thought it was cool. But at 16, I thought a lot of stuff was cool. Vic Orsini often let us work even when it was pouring rain. We’d stand in the doorway looking out at Norris Drive and brag. My next job was stockboy at the drugstore owned by my dad’s golf bud. Mostly I organized the record albums…LP’s. I’m fairly certain I was supposed to be organizing the entire store, though, in my defense, on one occasion I did chase a shoplifter several blocks before giving up. I worked briefly for the Illinois Highway Dep’t, but really, you ought to have a little simple math if you think you’re gonna be a civil engineer. WORKING cast member Emjoy Gavino garnered some favorable press on her own this week - but not exclusively for her work on-stage. Gavino was interviewed by the Northwest Indiana Times about her love of cooking and family recipes: Emjoy Gavino loves experimenting with recipes. The actress is currently starring as an ensemble member in the hit musical "Working," running through June 5, at the Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place in Chicago.
